We are learning to write instructions!

In week 7 we are learning to write instructions. Instructions tell the reader how to do something such as build a model, make a cake or put a bookshelf together. We will be writing instructions for how to make the Christmas gifts we are making this week.
This BBC game helps you learn some of the features of instructions! Click here to try this quiz and see how much you know about writing instructions.

Week 6 update

Well, we have had another busy week as we start to move towards the end of the year.
In Topic we designed play structures and analysed our designs. The class voted to build Zara's giant snakes and ladders board kit and we have been busy sewing our snakes. The class are really enjoying the sewing element and some of our boys are naturals at it! Thank you to parents who sent in bamboo for our ladders.
We have also been bringing in cans for a Christmas project we will be starting next week. If you have not brought one in yet, please try to find one or two over the weekend.
In Maths this week we have been learning about area and volume and doing fun activities to investigate these concepts. We calculated the area of our hands and made a graph out of the data. We also got hold of Mr Radcliffe and worked out the area of his hand. It's pretty big! To practise more at home you could work out the volume of boxes around your house. Remember it's width x depth x height.
In Writing we have been learning to write news articles. Check out the silly headlines and articles in the below post.
Next week is the school picnic and sing along (Thursday 5.30) so we have been practising our two songs for that.
Harrison, Zara and Naomi brought in their recycling homework creations too.

Trip to the botanic gardens

"Aaaah fresh air at last" we got slowly out of the hot bus. Dragging our bags into the beautiful gardens. We sat down to listen to the next exiting instruction. Afterwards we set off to the classroom to learn something new. I put my bag on the floor and went to sit in the semi circle that was being made by the rest of the class. The first step was to find a group of three or four people then they gave each group got a coloured pen to write on the paper we got given as well, on the paper was a big not coloured picture of a house. What the groups had to do was to draw things with labels on the picture that were sustainable for example soler panels on the roofs and great big gardens. then we had to go round tables with a pencil and worksheet and at the tables were different things about clay and sand or even soil. There were five different tables and we had to go to each one the first was were you had to get clay or sand and put water in them and then see what happens, what did happen was it went al soggy and gooey. "clap clap cla clap clap clap clap" looks like we were ready for the next table so the groups finished there worksheet and rushed to the next table at the next table there was lots of tiny magnifying glasses that we used to look at the stones and see what they were made of. After that we did our worksheets and then we moved on to the other tables with different experiments. After lunch we went outside to make our adobe bricks. Adobe bricks are made out of plant fibre, such as pea straw or paper, sand and wet clay. after we made the mixture we put it into the moulds to shape the bricks. We are going to pick up our bricks and make something out of them when they are dry and hard. It was an interesting day and we learnt a lot about adobe.
