World Environment Day

The 5th of June is Word Environment Day.

Today is World Environment Day, set aside by the United Nations Environment Programme with a special focus on global food waste. The UN Food and Agriculture Programme estimates that globally, one third of all food is wasted every year. In developing countries, more than 40% of food waste happens on farms, during storage, and in processing. But in first world countries, about the same amount of food waste occurs in homes and in stores due to greed, over purchase, dislike of food which is close to expiry date, blemished or bruised. We need to make wise choices about what we buy and use to prevent food wastage.
The UN estimates that 70% of the world’s freshwater resources go in to global food production, which also accounts for 80% of the world’s deforestation.

  8. If we were at the super market we could think before we get our fruiit or vegtables wecould think if we were going to eat all we get because if we bought to much we would probeble not eat what we get and we might wast some of the food we bought another example is if we had an apple in our fruit basket and it had a little rotten spot we could cut the rotten spot of and eat the restif we didchuck it away we should put it in the worm bin

  9. If we are at school we could give it to the chickens or make it into compost. At home and school we use that food for that night and make somthing different the next night. If we were at the super market we could just take what we need. If you dont want the food you could share it wih our freinds. And we could check if there was uneatin food in the worm bin. If your mum makes your lunch she has to make shore that the child will eat it,and if you had so much food you could give it to charity.

  10. At home when your mum is packing your lunch for you for school and you see something you dont like and at school you chuck it away then at home in sted you could rap it up and put it into the fridge or just put it in the compost. If there was still good food in the fridge insted of chucking it out you could give it to an other friend or put it in the worm bin

  11. *Serve how much you need to eat before getting more.
*If you are at the supermarket and you are buying eggs try not to drop them.
*If one of your fruits or vegetables go bad put it in the fridge and then after a while you could turn it into something yummy but healthy.
*Dont only eat sugar things because then some of your healthy food might turn bad.
*Dont throw it away on the best before date because sometimes the food can still be good past the best before date.
*If you were buying a very breakable fruit or vege don't drop it.
