It's Maths Week!

This week is Maths Week. We will be doing heaps of maths and problem solving in the class room and you can join in at home too!
We want to win the Mathletics trophy again so lets get busy and earn those points! Mrs Carryer thinks that we can get more points than the other Year 4 classes but Miss Brooks thinks that they will. Who is right?

 

The Amazing Maths Race!

Follow the clues and travel around the world in the amazing math race!
Each day there will be a new set of questions on the blog. Write the answers in your homework book to win prizes and Dojo points!
 
Here are Mondays race questions.
 

Monday:                      Let’s Race !  

You need to get to America as fast as possible to find the first clue.
If you choose to travel by ship it will take you 21 days to get to America. 
If you travel by aeroplane it will take you 12 hours.
1.      Which travels faster, a ship or an aeroplane?
 
2.      How many hours are in one full day and night?
 
3.      How many days are in one week?
 
4.      If you choose to travel by ship which takes 21 days, how   many weeks would you be travelling for?
 
You fly to America and realise once you have landed that you have left your toothbrush behind!  
You return to New Zealand to collect it. 
 
5.    How many hours have you been flying for when you land in New Zealand?
 
You take off again with Air New Zealand and your toothbrush!
The next place you go to is New York.
 A clue is hidden in The Statue of Liberty in New York, America.
                                                                                       
6.      Builders started building the Statue of Liberty in 1875.
          It took 9 nine years to build. 
          What year was the Statue of Liberty completed? 

7.      The Statue of Liberty is 93 metres tall! How many more metres would need to be added to reach 100 metres?
 
          You find the first clue in the Statue of Liberty's flame! 
          It reads 'Travel by car to Hollywood!'
 
8.      It takes 20 hours to travel by car.
You get hungry on the trip so stop at a diner for a burger, fries and a coke.
          A burger cost $5, fries cost $2 and a coke costs $2.
          How much do you spend for this?
9.      You give the cashier $10.           
          How much change do you get?
 
10.    You reach Hollywood and see the giant sign on the mountain.
          How many letters are in the word 'Hollywood'.
Congratulations you have reached your first destination!
